As the only point of contact with the road, your tyres are one of the most important parts of your car. If something goes wrong with your tyres, then not only is your safety at risk, but you won't be able to drive your vehicle. As such, you need to pay close attention to their upkeep and make sure that they are well-maintained at all times.
At Advance Tyres, we understand how pivotal your tyres are to keeping your vehicle running, which is why we're dedicated to ensuring that our services remain affordable - nobody should have to put their safety at risk because they can't afford to have their worn tyres repaired or replaced.
For more information on what tyres are best for your car, make sure to get in touch with our knowledgeable team so that we can find the best tyres for your specific vehicle and get you back on the road as soon as possible.
Replacing your tyres is not a complicated task, but to do it correctly, you need to know your tyre size. To find this out, you will need to look at the side of the tyre which points outwards. Look at the rim and you should see the code moulded into the tyre. But once you have the code, how do you read it?
First, there are three digits that tell you the width in millimetres. Then there will be two more digits that tell you the percentage that compares the section height of the tyre with the section width. On the majority of modern cars, you will then see the letter R, which indicates that the tyres have been angled in the direction of travel to increase their strength.
The next two digits tell you the nominal rim diameter, which is listed in inches. The final two digits indicate the load index or maximum weight that you can put on the tyres. This number represents its own code that you need to check to find out the actual maximum load amount. The letter at the end points out the speed rating. You can opt for tyres with a higher speed rating than the ones you currently have, but it's generally advised that you don’t choose something lower.
If you've been driving your car for a while now and have never replaced the tyres, you might be wondering how long tyres should usually last. While modern advancements mean tyres tend to last longer nowadays, they can still wear down fairly quickly with consistent use, which can impact your car's performance and safety.
Generally, tyres should last at least five years, but after this, you need to make sure to get them checked every year. Your driving style and the terrain you drive on can impact the lifespan of your tyres too, so if you notice any signs of wear and tear, it is usually recommended that you replace them.
If your tyres haven't been replaced 10 years after their date of manufacture, then we advise you get them changed as soon as possible.
